Location: Portsmouth

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a fast-growing and award-winning consultancy that specialises in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transport Planning. This is an excellent opportunity for a Transport Planner to join a collaborative and expanding team, working on a diverse range of projects across the UK.

The Role

As a Transport Planner, you'll play a key role in supporting and leading small to medium-sized projects. You'll prepare technical reports such as Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and Access Appraisals, while managing budgets, timescales, and client relationships. This position offers fantastic opportunities for career progression, exposure to complex schemes, and professional development within a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage small-medium sized projects, including budgets, deadlines, and delegation.
  • Prepare and review Transport Assessments, Statements, and Travel Plans.
  • Undertake site visits and provide professional input to inform early-stage development proposals.
  • Attend meetings with clients, project teams, and local authorities.
  • Prepare and check drawings such as visibility splays, access designs, and vehicle tracking diagrams.
  • Support public consultation events and contribute to fee proposals.
  • Develop strong working relationships with architects, planners, and highways officers.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in transport planning.
  • Knowledge of relevant design guidance and planning policy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, TRICs, and transport modelling software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ideally working towards membership of a professional body (e.g., CIHT, TPS).
