Transport Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to take ownership of their delivery operations, ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective transport while maintaining high standards for all deliveries.
Due to ongoing growth and operational expansion, they are looking for a strong leader to manage their transport team and drive performance improvements across the business.
What's involved for the Transport Manager
- Lead and manage the transport team, including Planners, Coordinators, and the Company Trainer.
- Oversee all transport operations across the company.
- Manage a large HGV fleet.
- Oversee the allocation of drivers and vehicles efficiently, ensuring compliance with driver hours and regulations.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Liaise with subcontractors to allocate work and negotiate rates.
- Ensure all drivers operate in full compliance with EU driving hours and HGV VOSA regulations.
- Conduct disciplinary investigations and interviews alongside the HR Manager.
- Carry out 121s, appraisals, and support team development.
- Manage accident investigations and reporting processes.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships, reviewing and renewing contracts and SLAs as required.
What you'll need
- Transport CPC essential
- Proven experience as a Transport Manager with strong knowledge of transport legislation and compliance.
- Previous experience managing a transport team and dealing confidently with drivers.
- Experience in contract management, renewals, and negotiations (advantageous).
- Experience in FMCG sectors (frozen, chilled, or ambient food) desirable but not essential.
- Experience managing an HGV fleet.
- Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure while remaining decisive and flexible.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Transport Management Systems.
- Ideally a minimum of five years' experience in a transport or logistics environment.
