Job summary

M-Sport UK is seeking a skilled Transmissions Technician to join the Dovenby Hall team. You will support assembly, preparation, maintenance and repair of high-performance transmission systems for international motorsport programmes, collaborating with engineering, workshop and design teams to meet exacting standards and event deadlines.

The role requires a Level 3 engineering qualification, hands-on assembly experience, and a proactive, detail-focused approach.

Qualifications

  • Educated to Level 3 Engineering Fitter, Mechanical Engineering, Motorsport, Automotive or similar technical standard.
  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly, disassembly, inspection, maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Transmission Assembly: Build, assemble and prepare transmission components and complete assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and build specs.
  • Component Preparation: Prepare gears, shafts, differentials, casings, bearings, seals and other transmission components.
  • Inspection & Measurement: Carry out detailed inspections and dimensional checks using appropriate measuring equipment.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Routine maintenance, servicing, strip-down, repair and rebuild of transmission systems.
  • Fault Finding: Identify, diagnose and resolve transmission faults to minimise downtime.
  • Technical Documentation: Interpret drawings and specs to ensure accurate build standards.
  • Quality Control: Inspect assemblies to meet standards of quality and workmanship.
  • Event Support: Support motorsport tests and events domestically and internationally.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally-Raid, and a variety of global customer racing activities. We’re looking to recruit a skilled and experienced Transmissions Technician to join our busy Transmissions team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of M-Sport’s technical operations, supporting the assembly, preparation, maintenance and repair of high-performance transmission systems across a variety of motorsport programmes. Working closely with colleagues across our transmissions, engineering, design, workshop and technical teams, you will play an important role in ensuring transmission components and assemblies are prepared and maintained to the highest possible standards, meeting technical specifications, reliability requirements and demanding event deadlines.

The role responsibilities include:
  • Transmission Assembly: Build, assemble and prepare transmission components and complete assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, build specifications and requirements.

  • Component Preparation: Prepare gears, shafts, differentials, casings, bearings, seals and other transmission components for assembly and installation.

  • Inspection & Measurement: Carry out detailed inspections and dimensional checks on transmission components using appropriate measuring equipment and inspection techniques.

  • Maintenance & Repair: Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, strip-down, repair and rebuild activities on transmission systems and associated components.

  • Fault Finding: Identify, diagnose and resolve transmission-related faults, wear and damage using a methodical approach to minimise vehicle downtime.

  • Technical Documentation: Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, assembly instructions and other documentation to ensure accurate and consistent build standards.

  • Quality Control: Inspect completed transmission assemblies to ensure they meet M-Sport’s expected standards of quality, reliability, performance and workmanship.

  • Event Support: Support motorsport programme tests and events both domestically and internationally as required.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a self-motivated team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Essential Criteria & Skills:
  • Technical Understanding & Education: Educated to Level 3 Engineering Fitter, Mechanical Engineering, Motorsport, Automotive or a similar technical standard, with good understanding of mechanical engineering principles.

  • Mechanical Knowledge: Good understanding of mechanical systems, components, tolerances, fits, bearings, gears and transmission systems.

  • Practical Skills: Practical experience of mechanical assembly, disassembly, inspection, maintenance and repair, with the ability to use a range of hand tools and workshop equipment.

  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach, with pride in delivering work to a high standard.

  • Problem Solving: A practical and methodical approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.

  • Quality Focus: High standard of workmanship, with the ability to identify defects and ensure completed work meets the required standard.

  • Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across technical, engineering and workshop teams.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a busy technical environment while also being capable of working independently.

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience working within a motorsport or automotive workshop environment would be advantageous.
