Are you passionate about supporting staff through education and supporting the development of our non-medical workforce? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Award Winning Professional Development & Education Unit (PDEU) at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, as a Transition Support Mentor (TSM). This exciting permanent opportunity will allow for the successful candidates to fullfill their career aspirations within education.

The ideal candidates must be able to show evidence of high standards of practice an understanding of the education and assessment of competence within healthcare. Furthermore, an ability to prioritise and manage their own workload with the support of the Lead Clinical Educators.

The pioneering post will support both Student Nurses and Graduate Nurses as they transition through their training programme to be come qualified Nurses. Additionality, the TSM will support delivery of student and graduate related training programmes.

Being a catalyst for change is essential to implement continuous improvement of current and new process, both within the PDEU team and external teams. A positive problem-solving approach is essential to the success of the PDEU and MYTT teams.

Main duties of the job

To work within the Professional Development and Education Unit (PDEU), in accordance with the team and wider Trust values. This role will support and facilitate the learners and students within the non-medical workforce in clinical and non-clinical areas, to identify learning and development opportunities for maintaining and improving standards of patient care through enhancing placement experience, education and pastoral support opportunities.

Support education and training to student nurses and assist in the delivery of training programmes which focus on support of student on placement and graduate transition into practice.The post holder will develop skills to support and facilitate Newly qualified Nurses and students in clinical areas to improve placement experience and identify opportunities for maintaining and improving standards of patient care. This will include working alongside student Nurses and graduate Nurses within the clinical environment to achieve competence and confidence.

Key requirements include:

  • To support the PDEU in facilitating and delivering induction and training programmes for Pre-Registered and Registered staff.
  • Providing in situ clinical support to appropriate staff groups to assist in achieving competencies and developing confidence in their roles.
  • Provide Pastoral support to learners and new starters to ensure wellbeing is supported.
