The role
This role provides technical administrative support to the Shared Service Building Control team. You will handle customer enquiries, manage building control mailboxes, register and validate routine applications, process payments, maintain records, and support inspection requests. You will follow standard operating procedures in line with ISO9001:2018 and contribute to a customer‑focused, efficient service across the shared 3C Building Control partnership.
Key accountabilities
- Handle and triage customer enquiries, signposting as necessary.
- Monitor shared mailboxes and distribute messages.
- Provide basic guidance on building control queries and escape complex cases.
- Register, validate and maintain routine application records.
- Maintain records of Initial Notices and Competent Person Scheme submissions.
- Take telephone payments.
- Process archive search requests and ensure fees are collected.
- Log and update inspection requests.
- Provide general administrative support to the service.
- Follow SOPs for financial processes, data protection and service delivery.
- Assist with user testing of ICT systems and minor process improvements.
Requirements/key criteria
- Experience working in a team setting.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

- Experience in building control or regulatory environments.
- Familiarity with IDOX, Uniform or similar database systems.
- Experience with GIS or interpreting maps.
- Experience handling plans or technical drawings.
- Understanding of building control legislation.
- Knowledge of archive search processes.
- Basic map and spatial data handling skills.
