Job description
Sterile Services Department – Trainee Sterilisation Technician

Applications are invited for this post within the RVI and Freeman Hospitals. The role involves working under the direction of a team of supervisors to reprocess medical devices for use in theatres, wards and the community.

Job Purpose

To work as part of a team of Sterilisation Technicians, assisting with the efficient processing and preparation of contaminated re‑usable surgical instrumentation for use in operating theatres, wards, clinics and endoscopy departments. The successful applicant will complete the in‑house training programme, progressing from BAND 2 to BAND 3.

Responsibilities
  • Stock control, general housekeeping, record keeping and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes.
  • Reprocess endoscopes in the Endoscopy SSD.
  • Achieve the Sterile Services Department Decontamination Training Programme.
  • Rotate through all five sterile service departments, maintaining knowledge of all clinical equipment.
  • Abide by Trust policies and procedures.
  • Flexibly meet service and shift pattern needs.
  • Contribute to housekeeping and other departmental duties such as general tidiness and maintaining pre‑determined stock levels.

Band & Salary

BAND 2 at start, progressing to BAND 3 upon successful completion of the training programme.

Weekly hours: 37 hours 30 minutes.
