Overview

Trainee Shipping Customs Clerk

Location: West Bromwich (on-site)

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience

Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:30 (1-hour lunch)

Start: ASAP

Kick-start your logistics career in a hands-on trainee role with full training across UK and European shipping and customs. You will support an Operations Supervisor while learning end-to-end import and export processes, groupage, FTL and PTL, with clear progression in a friendly, high-performing team.

What you will do

• Work alongside and support the Operations Supervisor on day-to-day shipping and customs tasks.
• Assist with end-to-end import and export files: bookings, documentation, status updates, PODs and invoicing support.
• Coordinate UK collections and distribution, liaising professionally with drivers, hauliers and clients.
• Gain exposure to groupage, FTL and PTL planning, scheduling and execution.
• Learn to raise and process EADs, T-forms and IDR documents; maintain accurate job files.
• Develop working knowledge of Commodity Codes and Incoterms.
• Train on customs and community systems such as CDS, NCTS, Sequoia, Destin8, CNS and GMR.

About you

• Clear, confident communicator with strong attention to detail and a good standard of education.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic and enthusiasm to learn.
• Able to use your own initiative and collaborate effectively as part of a thriving team.
• IT-confident (Outlook, Excel, Word); any exposure to freight or transport is advantageous but not essential.
