Job summary

Mercury Hampton Ltd is hiring a Trainee Sales Engineer in Cowdenbeath, Scotland. The role offers a clear pathway from technical learning to commercial sales, with training across engineering, sales and installation disciplines.

You’ll start by learning to convert enquiries into quotations, orders and installations, with mentorship from experienced professionals and exposure to varied project sites. A full UK driving licence would be beneficial.

Qualifications

• Engineering, construction or technically focused graduate preferred.
• HNC/HND/T Level or college qualification accepted.
• CAD experience or junior estimator exposure beneficial.
• Full UK driving licence beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Understand technical and commercial requirements from customers.
• Review drawings, specifications and project information.
• Perform measurements, quantity calculations and take-offs.
• Prepare quotations and technical proposals.
• Support pricing and project information for external sales.
• Liaise with suppliers, contractors and installation teams.
• Produce or review basic CAD drawings when required.

Trainee Sales Engineer

Cowdenbeath, Scotland | £26,000–£28,000 | Permanent

Your technical qualification could take you much further than a traditional engineering role.

Imagine developing genuine engineering expertise, working directly with customers, visiting live project sites and learning how to turn technical challenges into commercially successful solutions.

This is a rare opportunity to join an established UK engineering and manufacturing business that will train you from the ground up. You do not need previous sales experience.

Whether you’re an engineering graduate, college leaver, CAD technician or already gaining practical experience within construction or manufacturing, this role offers a clear route into technical sales - with future progression into estimating, project management or business development.

What will you be doing?

You’ll work alongside experienced technical and commercial professionals, learning how to take a project from its initial enquiry through to quotation, order and installation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Speaking with customers to understand their technical and commercial requirements
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and project information
• Completing measurements, material take-offs and quantity calculations
• Preparing accurate quotations and technical proposals
• Following up opportunities and developing customer relationships
• Supporting the external sales team with pricing and project information
• Liaising with suppliers, contractors and internal installation teams
• Producing or reviewing basic CAD drawings when required
• Identifying new projects, customers and commercial opportunities
• Attending customer meetings and site visits as your experience develops
• Supporting projects from initial enquiry through to delivery and installation

Experience with AutoCAD or similar software would be useful but is not essential, as training will be provided. A full UK driving licence would also be beneficial for future customer meetings and site visits.
