Job summary

VolkerHighways in Clutton is recruiting a Trainee Quantity Surveyor for its commercial team, reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor. This permanent role is ideal for someone developing quantity-surveying skills while studying or planning to study a relevant construction qualification.

You will assist with subcontract procurement, tender evaluation and subcontract documentation, and contribute to payment applications, client valuations and monthly forecasts.

Job description

VolkerHighways is recruiting a Trainee Quantity Surveyor for its commercial team, with Clutton shown as the location. The permanent role reports to a Senior Quantity Surveyor and supports the commercial delivery of highways and infrastructure projects. It is intended for someone developing quantity-surveying skills while studying, or planning to study, a relevant construction qualification.

The trainee will assist with subcontract procurement, tender evaluation and subcontract documentation.

Duties include:

• helping prepare payment applications and client valuations
• maintaining commercial records
• tracking costs and supporting monthly reports
• forecasts

The role also involves measurement, subcontractor accounts and monitoring project risks for escalation. Procurement work includes contact with suppliers and subcontractors throughout project delivery.

Applicants should be undertaking or planning a degree, HND or equivalent covering:

• quantity surveying
• construction management
• another related subject

Numerical, analytical, communication and organisational skills are required, together with Microsoft Office proficiency. Previous construction work experience or a placement is desirable, as is progress towards RICS, CIOB or ICES membership. The posting does not require an already completed degree.
