About the Role

We’re looking for a motivated and practical person to join our team as a Network Steward. You’ll play an important part in keeping Hounslow’s streets, footpaths, and public spaces safe, clean, and well‑maintained.

This is a great opportunity for someone starting their career — you’ll gain hands‑on experience, receive training, and learn how highways and local environments are managed day‑to‑day.

You’ll work both outdoors and in the office, inspecting streets, spotting issues, and helping to make improvements that really make a difference to local communities.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Carry out regular checks of roads, pavements, cycle routes and public spaces.
  • Spot and record problems such as potholes, litter, graffiti or fly‑tipping.
  • Help make sure repairs and clean‑ups are done quickly and properly.
  • Learn how to carry out inspections under the New Roads and Street Works Act (1991).
  • Support enforcement under the Highways Act (1980) and Environmental Protection Act (1990).
  • Use mobile technology to record and update inspection data.
  • Work with residents, local groups, and businesses to resolve issues and keep areas looking good.
  • Support the team during winter and other seasonal operations.
  • Help improve the service by collecting data and suggesting better ways of working.
What We’re Looking For
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Interest in working outdoors and improving the local environment.
  • Good communication and people skills – you’ll talk to a range of people every day.
  • Attention to detail – you’ll be spotting issues and recording accurate data.
  • Basic IT skills and a willingness to learn new systems.
  • Ability to follow processes and work safely.
  • A team player who’s happy to get stuck in.
  • Experience or training in highways, construction, or environmental work.
Why Join Us
  • Full on‑the‑job training and career development.
  • Work outdoors and make a visible difference to your community.
  • Supportive team environment.
  • Opportunities to grow and progress within the company.
