Job description
Role

Trainee Health Screener

Location

Isle of White – requires valid driving licence, occasional travel to Hampshire.

Salary & Hours

Base salary £24,523 FTE (£19,618.40 pro rata). Part‑time 30 hrs per week.

Key Duties
  • Wel‑come patients and ensure a comfortable screening experience.
  • Complete the screening checklist and maintain a safe environment.
  • Perform basic camera and equipment maintenance to capture high‑quality images.
  • Administer eye drops safely and acquire photographs with correct field of view.
  • Identify patients requiring urgent onward referral at the time of appointment.
  • Maintain consumables stock to run the clinic efficiently.
  • Deliver elements of the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP) within prison settings, complying with all security, safeguarding and health and safety protocols. Training and clearances (prison vetting, DBS) will be provided.

Upon training, you will acquire the Health Screener Diploma and have opportunities to progress to roles such as Screener/Grader, Arbitration Grader, Referral Outcome Grader, OCT Examiner/Grader, Slit Lamp Examiner, Team Leader/Management, with salaries up to £45,000.
