Salary and Pension

Programme Overview
We are pleased to offer a unique opportunity to join the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) Trainee Accountant Programme for graduates. The programme delivers up to four years of funded training to achieve qualified accountant status. Successful candidates who demonstrate ongoing progress, commitment and achieve the objectives set in both their studies and overall performance during their two‑year contract will be offered a permanent contract to complete their accountancy qualification.
Responsibilities
- Providing support and advice to business area(s) on financial matters.
- Supporting input to the development and/or implementation of financial policies and processes.
- Completing assignments in compliance with the terms and conditions agreed at the outset.
- Ensuring accuracy, validity and quality of financial information.
- Developing and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders in relation to business as usual and/or development programmes, ensuring due process is followed.
Qualifications and Experience
- 2:1 class degree in any discipline or a 2:2 where you have additional qualifications such as a Master’s degree.
- Be self‑motivated with a passion for a career in finance and accounting, and commitment to studies alongside work with the goal of achieving a qualification.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor this to your audience.
- Build strong stakeholder engagement.
- If applying as an Internal DVLA Candidate, applicants should have a minimum of a 2:1 undergraduate degree from any field of study. A 2:2 degree may be considered if accompanied by a relevant postgraduate qualification such as a Master’s degree.
Selection Process
- Stage 1: Online test – Civil Service Numerical Test.
- Stage 2: Sift – CV and personal statement, with evidence of experience in working together to achieve an outcome or objective, and commitment to learning and development.
- Stage 3: Interview – behavioural assessment covering Making Effective Decisions, Changing & Improving, Working Together, Delivering at Pace and Communicating & Influencing, plus a presentation to assess communication and influencing.
Working Hours and Attendance
Full‑time roles consist of 37 hours per week. Whilst we welcome applications for part‑time positions, the successful candidate must be able to work at least 35 hours per week. Hybrid working is a non‑contractual arrangement, with a minimum of 60% of working time spent at the designated workplace or other business locations as required.
