A specialist engineering company in the UK is seeking a Trainee Field Technician, particularly welcoming ex-forces personnel. The role involves driving an HGV to various sites, setting up structural tests, and conducting static load testing. Candidates must hold a HGV Class 2 Licence and be willing to stay away from home from Monday to Friday. The position offers a competitive salary of £30k-£36k plus bonuses and benefits, including extensive training and development opportunities.
HGV Class 2 Licence Required
Home based, travelling sites across the UK (including weekly stay away from home).
Candidates must be based from a commutable distance of Derby, Nottingham, Mansfield, Newark, Hucknall, Long Eaton, Beeston, West Bridgford, Ilkeston.
£30,000‑£36,000 + Performance Bonus (up to £6,000) + Mon‑Fri, 40hrs + Overtime Available (Weekends) + 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays + Company Training + Qualification + Pension + Nationwide travel + Overnight stays.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering business operating at the forefront of structural and infrastructure testing across the UK. The company works on high‑profile projects including major stadiums, large commercial structures, and critical infrastructure, delivering essential safety and strength testing that underpins some of the country's most important builds.
The day to day responsibilities will be to perform static load testing, driving the HGV vehicle to sites, erecting the test using the lorry mounted crane, and undertaking site work using the automated pile testing equipment at customer sites. In this role you will be required to stay away from home on a weekly basis from Monday to Friday.
The ideal candidate will be someone who holds a HGV Class 2 Licence, is mechanically minded and happy with stay away from home.
Whether your background is in REME, Royal Navy or RAF, your transferable skills will be highly valued.
