It’s not often that an opportunity like this – to secure a trainee position within commercial insurance broking – presents itself. More often than not, insurance employers want previous relevant experience. However, the MD of this highly successful boutique broker recognises (from tried and tested methods), the benefits of training new entrants to the market.

Our client is a well-established commercial broking firm that specialises in Trade Credit Insurance – a vital insurance cover that helps businesses protect their balance sheets, and allowing them to continue to trade in the event that their customers go insolvent.

The Trade Credit Insurance market is booming – as it does in times of economic uncertainty. In fact, when it comes to a secure career, this is about as safe as it gets.

A major selling point of this opportunity is just how much you are going to learn! Working so closely with the MD, you are going to learn from one the most experienced Trade Credit Insurance specialists in the industry, who is keen to share his many years of knowledge with you.

“It's a fascinating place to work”, he says. “One minute, we’ll be looking at a standard TCI policy, and the next minute we’ll be broking Surety Bonds and Political Violence covers.”

With extensive training, you will help to service the insurance programmes for a wide range of clients spanning many industry sectors. This broker caters for small businesses, right up to large corporate organisations with turnovers in the billions of pounds, and paying over £1m in insurance premiums

Working closely with the MD, your varied role will include, but not be limited to, managing credit limit requirements for clients via liaising and negotiating with insurers, and providing clients with support and guidance to ensure they adhere to their policy terms and conditions. In addition, you will prepare pre-renewal submission data, conduct renewals, and you’ll have the opportunity to attend some client visits too. This is far from a mundane insurance role; you will be taking a lot of complex enquiries from customers, which will require you to ‘think outside of the box’ and problem solve. As such, you will enjoy a very varied and intellectually-stimulating role.

It is not essential that you have previously worked within Trade Credit Insurance as full training will be provided. Our client is open when it comes to experience and will consider people from a wide range of backgrounds. They will consider general insurance professionals (from within broking, underwriting or claims). Alternatively, candidates who have previous experience in related industries (such as Credit Control, Invoice Financing, Factoring or Asset Finance etc). They will also consider candidates who have professional Business to Business (B2B) type experience, who are enthusiastic to move into the general insurance sector. You must have strong time-management and organisational skills, the ability to communicate effectively with a range of clientele, and a flexible attitude to getting things done. Just as importantly, you’ll have excellent attention to detail and be able to perform well under pressure. Crucially, our client is looking for someone with a thirst for learning, and who is genuinely excited about a career in Trade Credit Insurance.

This is an office-based position, where you will enjoy working from stunning premises, as part of a very friendly and supportive working environment.

You’ll be rewarded with an attractive basic salary (Negotiable, depending on experience) together with a lucrative, discretionary annual bonus. In addition, you’ll receive superb training, as a result of working so closely with the highly experienced MD.
