Job description

Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technician

Department: Mortuary

Band 4: £26,530 - £29,114 per annum

Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week, with flexible working options considered

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to join our Mortuary team as a Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technician. This role offers an exciting opportunity to start a rewarding career supporting high-quality mortuary services, including post-mortem examinations and care of the deceased.

You will work closely with experienced Anatomical Pathology Technologists, gaining hands-on experience and training in all aspects of mortuary practice. The role includes participation in an on-call rota, and full training will be provided.

Candidate Requirements:
  • A strong interest in anatomical pathology and mortuary sciences
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with sensitivity and discretion
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A willingness to learn and develop professionally

Previous experience in healthcare or laboratory settings is desirable but not essential.

This role provides a clear pathway for career progression, including opportunities to undertake the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.

Interview Dates:

30 and 31 July 2025

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure proper and dignified reception, labelling, safety, and care of the deceased during working hours and out of hours, in accordance with HTA regulations and departmental procedures (under supervision).
  • Ensure the safe storage of the deceased (under supervision).
  • Participate in providing an effective mortuary service (under supervision).
  • Record post-mortem examination details daily and maintain mortuary records and databases (under supervision).
