Job description

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join our dedicated and forward-thinking Acute Medicine team. This role is ideal for experienced clinicians who are ready to take the next step in their career, developing advanced assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills within a supportive and fast-paced environment.

As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be fully supported through a structured training programme, combining academic learning with supervised clinical practice. You will work closely with senior ACPs, consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to provide high-quality, patient‑centred care across the acute medical pathway.

Main duties of the job

There is an expectation that you will successfully complete your training programme in 3 years. You will be supported with 15 hours non clinical time per week and required to work clinically 22.5 hours per week for years 1 and 2, subject to change dependent on clinical and academic requirements. These will be between Monday - Friday 0900-1700 hours whilst in years 1 and 2 but subject to change when on rotation to other areas outside of Acute Medicine. In year 3, you will be expected to work 37.5 hours in clinical practice. Once you have completed all of your internal competences and academic study/exams successfully, you will undergo a sign off appraisal to progress to a Band 8a Trained ACP role if all of the above are met. Once you commence into a trained ACP role, you will then be required to cover a 24/7 rota in line with Service need and working requirements. In both your training post and trained post, irrelevant of base, you will be required to work cross site.

As part of your induction, you will be required to sign the Commitment by Financially Sponsored Employees Document which is part of the Trust’s Development and Training Support Policy. This confirms that if you leave the Trust before completion of the development (except if your contract is terminated by the Trust for reasons other than on the grounds of dismissal for misconduct), you undertake to repay in full to the Trust the proportion of fees contributed by the Trust.

Working for our organisation
Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non‑clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
