Job summary

A local government authority in the United Kingdom is seeking an Assistant Finance Officer to support financial reporting and budgeting, assist with external audits, and develop analytical skills. Overview

This role will provide valuable exposure to financial reporting, external audits, budgeting and financial planning. You'll gain hands‑on experience while supporting senior finance colleagues in delivering high-quality financial services.

Key responsibilities
  • Support financial reporting, budgeting and external audits.
  • Assist in preparing government returns and providing technical financial advice.
  • Develop skills in financial analysis and reporting to support decision making.
  • AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Level 4 qualified or equivalent, with 5 GCSEs grades 4-9 (or A-C) including English and Maths.
  • At least two years' experience working in a financial environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel and computerised financial packages (ideally Unit 4).
  • High level of numeracy to produce and monitor revenue accounts for a range of services.
  • Team player able to engage with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Able to work without strict supervision and meet deadlines.
