Job Highlights
  • Primary location: County Hall, Taunton; remote work allowed as per management agreement.

Role Overview

As a Traffic Engineering Technician, you will provide technical support and expertise to traffic engineers and project managers in the delivery and management of traffic and highway related schemes and projects. You will contribute to a safer, more efficient, and sustainable transport infrastructure for Somerset.

What you will do
  • Give technical advice on traffic management issues, including explaining programmes and how to deliver schemes.
  • Provide regular updates on the status of planned works to the Parking Team and wider Traffic Management Team.
  • Assist the Traffic Engineer in identifying, designing, prioritising and issuing orders for improvements and defect repairs.
  • Undertake traffic design work, including onsite needs assessment and designing signage for road markings.
  • Manage a programme of works for your designated area.
  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Understanding of parking enforcement principles and standards of enforceability.
  • Previous experience in a Highways/Traffic Management environment with a solid understanding of traffic engineering principles and practices.
  • A HNC in Civil Engineering or a similar field, or significant relevant experience.
  • A full UK Driver’s Licence is essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to act independently and solve problems.

Remuneration

Salary is Grade 11, ranging from £32,597 to £36,363 per annum.
