A local government authority in England seeks a Business Support Officer to assist Trading Standards Officers in protecting consumers while ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Are you looking for a business support role that is more than administration? Do you want to play a part in protecting consumers and supporting local businesses whilst working for one of the top performing councils in the UK?
This could be the role that you have been looking for, to develop your current skills and learn new ones. Supporting a dedicated team of Trading Standards Officers to carry out enforcement work as part of their statutory functions on behalf of the Council.
You will be responsible for a wide and diverse range of duties such as responding to complaints, enquires and reported incidents received to the Service about businesses, products, and services. Speaking to businesses on the telephone and undertaking routine administrative work as well as practical tasks such as ensuring specialist equipment is maintained and available for officers to carry out their work. Working on a team alongside Trading Standards Officers; providing them with support to carry out their role.
You may accompany officers when out on inspections to businesses or when visiting consumers in their homes. You may assist with criminal investigations by carrying out tasks such as sampling and undertaking test purchases or logging evidence. You will be required to make detailed and accurate notes and records at all times relating to the work you undertake. You will assist with logging of information in accordance with the legislative framework surrounding the legal process.
You will be communicating with consumers and providing compliance advice to businesses by sending out standard letters and questionnaires and processing responses accordingly. You will assist our duty officers to take and record enquiries incidents received by the Service.
You will maintain an area of specialism acquiring specific knowledge around that area of Trading Standards work, such as business advice, new food or feed businesses or safety of imported products, training will be provided.
