Job summary

The Trading Standards Service in Birkenhead is seeking a skilled Trading Standards Officer – Technical for a 3-month contract with a local authority. The role requires complex investigations, enforcement actions, and professional judgement to protect consumers and ensure compliance.

You will work within a generic Trading Standards team, supervise others, provide specialist advice, and contribute to service development while maintaining data protection and high professional standards.

Qualifications

• CTSI Trading Standards qualification with university degree.
• Experience in a Trading Standards service or large urban authority/private sector.
• Strong knowledge of enforcement procedures and PACE.

Responsibilities

• Undertake and supervise complex Trading Standards investigations and projects involving a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct inspections, surveys, investigations and compliance activities relating to Trading Standards legislation.
• Identify legal contraventions, assess risk and implement appropriate enforcement action.
• Prepare reports, correspondence and case files, and brief Legal Services as required.
• Give evidence in court and attend case conferences and other formal proceedings.
• Investigate consumer complaints and enquiries and provide appropriate resolutions.
• Provide professional and technical advice to members of the public, businesses and commercial undertakings.
