Job summary

SSE is seeking a Civil Crafts/Tradesperson to repair and maintain electrical substation buildings and enclosures. Based in Oxford with onsite duties, you will perform trades such as painting, carpentry, bricklaying, and glazing to support operational infrastructure.

The role requires a proven construction background, strong health and safety awareness, good communication, and the ability to work independently. A full UK driving licence and a company vehicle are provided.

Qualifications

• Proven background in a construction trade.
• Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
• Good Health and Safety awareness.
• Excellent communication skills at all levels; IT/data recording capability.
• Full UK driving licence and flexible approach to working hours/location.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform painting, fencing, carpentry, bricklaying, small roofing/wiring, glazing and similar upkeep activities under ESQCR.
• Carry out risk assessments; follow Lone Working Procedures and stop work if safety is breached.
• Apply Health and Safety risk assessments to mitigate hazards.
• Ensure CDM Regulations compliance when working with external contractors and report issues to civils compliance coordinator.
• Represent SSE professionally, respond to inquiries, and monitor satisfaction to deliver world-class service.

Salary: £36,139 - £43,188 + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Onsite

We are looking for an experienced Civil Crafts/Tradesperson to join our team.

As a craftsperson you will undertake running repairs to electrical substation buildings and enclosures.

This will typically include the following activity types; painting, fencing, carpentry, brick laying, small roofing, small wiring, windows / glazing and any other adhoc activities that will assist in the installation, repair, and upkeep of operational buildings within SSEN.

You Will

• Plan and perform tasks such as painting, fencing, carpentry, bricklaying, small roofing/wiring, glazing, and other building upkeep activities under ESQCR regulations.
• Carry out risk assessments and follow Lone Working Procedures; stop work if health and safety rules are breached and escape immediate risks promptly.
• Apply correct Health and Safety risk assessments to mitigate hazards effectively.
• Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations when working with external contractors and report issues to the civils compliance coordinator or team manager.
• Represent SSE professionally, respond to enquiries, and monitor satisfaction to deliver world-class service.

You Have

• Proven Background in a construction trade
• Ability to work alone
• A good level of Health and Safety awareness
• Excellent communication skill and the ability of speak with people at all levels
• IT skills to enable the recording and updating of all required data.

A full UK driving licence and flexible approach to working hours and work location is a must. Company vehicle will be provided for work duties.
