Job summary

DK Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Production Toolmaker/Programmer Engineer to set up, run and control CNC processes, working with the Cell Leader to hit cost, quality and timeliness targets.

The role includes offline CNC programming, tooling design and ordering, plus reading drawings and selecting tooling. Apprentice-trained toolmaker with CNC experience is preferred; you will support the team and drive process improvements.

Qualifications

• Apprentice-trained Toolmaker/Programmer with time-served background.
• Proficient CNC programming experience with ability to offline modify programs.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and route cards.
• Knowledge of speeds and feeds, tooling selection and workholding requirements.
• Good computer literacy and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate and control CNC processes as directed by the Cell Leader.
• Draw from stores required materials, tooling and documentation.
• Set up processes per instructions and record all checks and results.
• Offline modify and write CNC programs for existing product styles.
• Design tooling requirements and order external tooling as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and report issues to the Team Leader.
• Communicate process capability problems to the Cell Leader and peers.
• Carry out related duties as required.

Job description

The position of Production Toolmaker/PROGRAMMER Engineer is a specialist role and will be to be responsible for setting up, running and controlling the processes and assist employees in resolving process problems, as instructed by the Cell Leader, to meet Cell targets on cost, quality and timeliness.

You will be responsible for allotted time away from setting duties to create & modify CNC programs offline, design work holding, specify and order tooling.

Main Duties:

• To set up, operate and control processes in the sequence as instructed by the Leader. To perform this, the employee will:
• Draw from the relevant storage area all materials, equipment, tooling and documentation required to set up the process.
• Set up the process in accordance with relevant instructions, i.e. Route Card, P.S.P.I., I.S.P.I., Working Practice.
• Consult with the Team Leader if it is not possible to achieve process to the relevant instructions.
• Carry out all necessary checks and record on the relevant documentation all checks that have been carried out.
• Run the process or instruct the relevant employees to run the process.
• To offline modify programs for changes including material size amendments and tooling changes.
• To write offline new programs for established product styles.
• To identify tooling requirements, for new programs, design tooling as required working in conjunction with manufacturing and design engineers.
• Order external tooling as required, holders tips etc.
• To account for all materials and product being worked on the process the Setter has been designated to control, for all shifts worked.
• To maintain accurate, legible records using the appropriate recording systems.
• To work correctly to the Company direct and indirect time reporting system, reporting any problems encountered to the Team leader.
• To communicate with the Team leader on all problems affecting the process being controlled or the overall performance of the Cell.
• To communicate with other employees in the Cell, services to the Cell and other Cell leaders on process capability problems as instructed by the Cell Leader.
• To carry out related duties as required.

Skills & Experience:

• Apprentice trained, time serviced Toolmaker/Programmer

• A good level of computer literacy.
• The ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• An extensive knowledge of and a proven background in CNC programming, additional training for specific machines will be provided as required.
• Experienced in appropriate selection of speeds and feeds.
• Understanding of holder, tip & cutter selection.
• Understanding of work holding design and requirements.
• Understanding of program optimisation.
• To have a full understanding of all machinery, equipment, gauging, and processes performed in the Cell.
