Job description

Zenith People are working closely with our client who are a manufacturer based in Tyne & Wear and are looking to recruit a Toolmaker on a permanent basis.

The main purpose of the role is to ensure the accurate preparation, maintenance, and issuance of tooling required for production. This includes inspecting tool condition, performing precision work to tight tolerances, and supporting continuous improvement across tooling operations.

Duties Include
  • Issue correct tooling for production and verify its condition prior to use
  • Conduct first-off inspections in line with operational procedures
  • Report any discrepancies in production methods, drawings, or tolerances to the supervisor
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately
  • Maintain tooling to ensure optimal performance, replacing parts as needed
  • Operate and maintain grinding machines, lathes, and milling machines
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, including PPE usage
  • Keep the tooling area clean and organized in line with 6S workplace standards
  • Support quality assurance processes, particularly ISO 9001 requirements
Essential Qualifications & Skills
  • Skilled in using measuring equipment (e.g., micrometers, gauges)
  • Experience with surface grinding and precision machining
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards
  • Strong hands-on mechanical skills
  • Understanding of heat treatment techniques
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and working to fine tolerances
  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent experience in toolmaking
Desirable
  • Experience with cylindrical grinding and progression tooling
  • Knowledge of metrology and use of Vernier calipers
  • Flexibility to assist with other tasks across the site
