Job summary

A leading manufacturing firm in Calne is looking for a proactive Tooling Engineer / Setter. You will supervise tool maintenance and ensure efficient production runs. Responsibilities include cleaning and servicing extrusion dies, inspecting configurations, and troubleshooting tooling issues. Ideal candidates have at least 5 years of experience in tool repair and a Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering. Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience using lathes, milling machines, and other tool-making/repair equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of materials and die-making processes.
  • Experience with polymers and profile extrusion is a bonus.

Job Title: Tooling Engineer / Setter

Location: Calne

Days: Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 17:00

Duration: Temporary - 4 months

Pay rate: £14.80 - £20 p/h DOE

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturer of innovative window, door, and building solutions, dedicated to creating comfortable, energy-efficient, and sustainable living spaces. They are seeking a proactive and experienced Tooling Engineer / Setter to support their extrusion operations in Calne for the next 3-4 months.

The Role:

You will be responsible for daily tool maintenance and supervising two other setters, ensuring that extrusion dies are stripped, cleaned, serviced, and reassembled with precision. Your work will be essential in minimising downtime and ensuring production runs efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strip, clean, service, and reassemble complex extrusion dies
  • Inspect newly set die configurations and approve handover to production
  • Identify tooling issues and liaise with machinists and vendors to implement cost-effective solutions
  • Communicate issues clearly to planning, production, and other departments to ensure timely resolution
  • Take a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and resolving tooling problems
  • Work independently when required and as part of a multi-functional team
Skills & Experience Required:
  • ONC (Level 3) in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' experience using lathes, milling machines, and other tool-making/repair equipment
  • Strong knowledge of materials and die-making processes
  • Experience with polymers and profile extrusion is a bonus
  • Skilled in using a wide range of tools and handling equipment
  • CAD/CAM experience desirable
  • High attention to safety, quality, and detail
  • Computer literate (MS Office: Word, Excel, etc.)
