Tooling Engineer (Nuclear Sector)
Location: Derby (Hybrid Potential)
IR35: Inside
Hours: Zero-hour contract
Clearance: SC clearance required

We are looking for an experienced Tooling Engineer to support major UK nuclear programmes across submarine systems, power generation, decommissioning projects and high‑integrity structures. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on delivering practical, safety‑critical solutions and enjoys taking ownership from concept through to manufacture.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and develop bespoke tooling systems to support manufacturing operations.
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure tooling is fit for purpose and safe to use.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to existing tooling solutions.
  • Troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analyses and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety requirements and nuclear‑sector regulations.
What You Bring
  • Degree in Tooling Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong background in tooling design—ideally within nuclear or similarly high‑integrity sectors.
  • Experience with mechanical tolerances, materials selection and ergonomic principles.
  • Proficiency in NX11 and Teamcenter.
  • Experience using SAP packages.
  • Ability to produce high‑quality technical documentation (design reports, drawings, specifications).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexibility to work on‑site in Derby when required.
