Job summary

BAe Systems in the United Kingdom is seeking a Tool Store Operator to manage acceptance, storage, release and disposal of tools and equipment in the central store, supporting a regulated aviation environment and flying operations.

You'll record tool identifications, ensure tracking, calibration, and compliance with Part 145 processes, and maintain security of stored tools while coordinating with maintenance teams for timely servicing.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs or Equivalent, including English & Maths.
  • Clean UK driving Licence.
  • Knowledge of tool control within a 145 organisation would be advantageous.
  • General knowledge of tooling types and technical competency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage acceptance, storage, release and disposal of tools and equipment in central storage.
  • Record tool identifications with unique serial numbers and monitor condition.
  • Keep tool kits locked and keys secure in the tool store.
  • Check incoming deliveries with documentation and ensure proper certification.
  • Inspect, service and calibrate tools; notify leadership if calibration is out of spec.
  • Remove surplus tooling and update tracking systems accordingly.

Job description

The Tool Store Operator will undertake a range of activities in order to manage the acceptance, storage, release and disposal of tools and equipment into and out of central storage area.

They will also require the ability to operate within a highly regulated Aviation environment and work shifts in support of flying operations.

Core Activity
  • Performance indicators – Ensure the effective provision of Part 145 activities by meeting delivery targets and reporting any impact on Continuing Airworthiness. Understand how individual actions contribute to overall delivery performance.
  • Completion of activities – Ensure all Part 145 activities are appropriately documented and airworthiness records are maintained on relevant systems (IT / paper based). Compile required reporting, identify any issues and escal as appropriate.
  • Procedure/standards – Comply with the Part 145 Exposition, its associated procedures and standards and any other Company procedures and standards, as applicable. Identify and propose changes, as required.
  • Safety Management System – Ensure Human Factors and Error Management philosophies are applied to all Part 145 activities. Understand the risks associated with Part 145 and the means by which they are mitigated and managed.
  • Management System Assurance – Ensure Part 145 activities are compliant with the AM&S Governance and Assurance framework, including supporting Process Confirmations and independent assurance audits. Support the response to audit findings in a timely and appropriate manner and provide information to support the relevant reviews. Support the implementation of identified improvements to overcome any non-compliance and monitor effectiveness.
  • Statutory / Regulatory & Legislative requirements – Able to demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding and application of the relevant Continuing Airworthiness Regulatory framework. Support the implementation of any Regulatory-driven changes into the Part 145 activities. Ensure compliance with all other requirements, e.g. ITAR, EaPW, ISO, etc.
  • Contractual Requirements – Ensure compliance with applicable contractual requirements, e.g. through support to contract reviews via the incorporation of required changes into Part 145 processes.
Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate identification, recording and monitoring of tooling/equipment held in the tool store. This will include the registration, following acceptance and inspection, of each tool by allocation of a unique serial/identification number.
  • Ensure that tooling/equipment being used is tracked and recorded including a statement of condition, labelling and any other appropriate documentation for each item. Manage tool tallies or labels as part of tool control.
  • Ensure tool kits remain locked when in storage and that the keys are held securely in the tool store.
  • Check incoming deliveries against order/delivery documentation, ensuring that all items are accompanied with supporting certification and maintenance/operation documentation as appropriate. Check all packaging is fit for purpose with no damage to incoming items.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely inspection, servicing and calibration of appropriate tools and equipment. Must notify Group Leaders/Aircraft Team Leaders when calibration results are beyond acceptable limits of original manufacturer.
  • Ensure that surplus or redundant tooling/equipment is removed from maintenance environment and quarantined or disposed. The tracking system must then be updated as necessary to reflect the action taken. Shall place an un-serviceable tool tally whenever an un-serviceable tool has been discovered and removed from the tool store.
Requirements
  • GCSE’s or Equivalent, including English & Maths.
  • Clean UK driving License.
  • Previous experience preferable and knowledge of tool control within a 145 organisation would be advantageous.
  • General product knowledge of tooling types and competency within own technical / subject area and a basic knowledge of those elements in other areas. Awareness of how the service integrates with maintenance users in order to achieve the levels of service defined by the tool store manager.
  • Awareness of how the team integrates with others in order to achieve the overall objectives of the area and demonstrates an understanding of the requirement for continuous improvement and its application.
  • Understanding of how to schedule and control maintenance and calibration of tools and test equipment.
  • Awareness of personal limitations and skill boundaries.
