Job summary

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking a Time Scale Engineer to design and implement critical infrastructure for UK timekeeping. Reporting to a Senior Engineer, you will join a world-leading department developing resilient time distribution to underpin national digital infrastructure.

Essentially you will calibrate measurements, manage hardware assets, specify equipment, and contribute to engineering artefacts while ensuring robust, secure time services for essential sectors.

Qualifications

• A degree in Engineering or Science (or equivalent experience).
• A rigorous approach to problem solving and ability to develop solutions.
• Good task management with ability to shift focus based on priorities.

Responsibilities

• Build domain knowledge to support cross-functional teams.
• Perform calibration and measurement activities in laboratories.
• Support through-life management of hardware assets; including procurement of equipment.
• Contribute to engineering artefacts (reports, compliance).
• Test & integrate new equipment (e.g., time interval counters).
• Maintain accurate records and data management.
