Summary of Role

The Ply Profiler / Kitting Technician will be responsible for cutting, preparing, and kitting aerospace components from a wide range of composite and textile materials, ensuring full compliance with customer specifications and internal quality standards.

The post-holder will operate a variety of ply profiling and cutting equipment, maintain accurate identification and documentation of all parts, and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes.

Working both independently and as part of a team, the successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, precision, and a commitment to achieving manufacturing and operational objectives set by the Team Leader. The role requires a proactive attitude, the ability to work across multiple functions, and a willingness to work overtime and weekend shifts when required to meet customer delivery schedules.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Handle and prepare a variety of composite and textile materials to produce kit components in accordance with standard operating procedures and detailed work instructions.
  • Operate ply profilers, hand cutting tools, heat sealers, and other relevant equipment to accurately cut and package parts and kits.
  • Ensure all parts and installation kits are correctly identified, labelled, and accompanied by accurate certification paperwork throughout the cutting and kitting process.
  • Work neatly and methodically, maintaining high levels of quality and consistency.
  • Interpret engineering diagrams and drawings to prepare materials for precision cutting and inclusion in finished kits.
  • Collaborate with problem‑solving teams across departments to identify areas for corrective or preventive action.
  • Maintain effective shift handovers by documenting and communicating work completed, outstanding issues, and ongoing priorities.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations, maintaining a clean and organised work area.
  • Participate actively in team and departmental meetings, contributing to discussions and improvement initiatives.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties as assigned by the TATS / Ply Profiler Supervisor or Value Stream Management.
  • Work with minimal supervision, demonstrating accuracy, reliability, and pride in workmanship.
  • The post‑holder is expected to work flexibly and may be asked to undertake tasks for which they are competent outside of their usual remit to support wider business needs.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
  • GCSE Grade C / Level 4 or above (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Qualifications (Desirable)
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent / working towards) in a manufacturing or engineering discipline.
Experience (Essential)
  • Proven experience in interpreting diagrams and engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrable experience cutting and preparing aerospace industry components or kits.
  • Experience working in a busy, fast‑paced manufacturing or production environment.
Experience (Desirable)
  • Experience working within an aerospace cleanroom environment.
  • Familiarity with composite materials and aerospace production standards.
Skills and Aptitude (Essential)
  • Ability to operate equipment such as ply profilers, hand cutting tools, and heat sealers.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Competent in maintaining part identification, labelling, and certification documentation.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (Epicor preferred).
