Job summary

A new specialist SEND secondary school near Redhill is seeking a dedicated THRIVE Practitioner to join its founding team. Responsibilities

  • Support pupils' emotional and behavioral needs through specialist skills.
  • Manage the day-to-day running of the THRIVE provision including planning.
  • Build strong relationships with students and act as a role model.
  • Provide play and arts-based experiences to encourage learning.
  • Deliver targeted support in various settings including 1:1 and small groups.
  • Engage families constructively in discussions about pupil progress.
  • Promote acceptance and inclusion throughout the school community.
  • Support assessment and maintain accurate records of pupil progress.
  • Supervise colleagues working with pupils' emotional and behavioral development.
  • Assist in training staff on the THRIVE Approach.

Skills

GCSE Maths and English Language (minimum Grade 4 or equivalent)
Up-to-date training relevant to the role
Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
Experience working with children in an educational setting
THRIVE training or willingness to undertake practitioner training
Experience supporting pupils with SEN, including ADHD and ASD
Knowledge of social and emotional development / attachment theory
Experience running nurture groups or social skills groups

Hours: 40 hours per week, Term Time Only

Your new company

A brand-new specialist SEND secondary school is opening in September 2025 close to Redhill. The school will support young people aged 11-16 with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs, often associated with Autism. With small class sizes, high levels of classroom support, and a dedicated multidisciplinary intervention team, the school offers a personalised curriculum designed to help every student thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Your new role

We are seeking a dedicated THRIVE Practitioner to join the founding team. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the school\'s journey from the very beginning. You will primarily be based at the Chaldon site, with occasional work at a satellite site in Caterham. The THRIVE Practitioner will work closely with the Pastoral Lead, SENDCo, and wider staff team to deliver a THRIVE provision that supports pupils\' social, emotional, and behavioural development. Your role will be key in helping students engage positively with their learning and wider school life.

Key responsibilities
  • Emotional Development: Use specialist skills and training to support pupils\' emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Provision Management: Assist in the day-to-day running of the THRIVE provision, including timetables, planning, and activities tailored to individual pupils.
  • Positive Relationships: Build strong, supportive connections with students, acting as a role model and responding to their individual needs.
  • Creative Learning: Provide play and arts-based experiences that encourage learning through exploration and enjoyment.
  • Targeted Support: Deliver sessions 1:1, in small groups, and within class settings.
  • Family Engagement: Work constructively with parents and families, contributing to feedback and progress discussions.
  • Inclusive Practice: Promote acceptance and inclusion across the school community.
  • Progress Monitoring: Support assessment, maintain accurate records, and provide feedback to staff, students, and families.
  • Staff Collaboration: Supervise and support colleagues working with pupils\' emotional and behavioural development.
  • Training Contribution: Assist in embedding the THRIVE Approach across the school through staff training and development.
What you\'ll need to succeed
Essential
  • GCSE Maths and English Language (minimum Grade 4 or equivalent)
  • Up-to-date training relevant to the role
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting
Desirable
  • THRIVE training or willingness to undertake practitioner training
  • Norfolk Steps or Team Teach training (or willingness to train)
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN, including ADHD and ASD
  • Knowledge of social and emotional development / attachment theory
  • Experience running nurture groups or social skills groups
