Job summary

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated therapy support worker for the neurology and neurosurgery pathway at Southmead Hospital.

Working under Occupational therapists or physiotherapists, you will support rehabilitation interventions, assist with activities of daily living, and help maintain clinical records within a multidisciplinary team.

Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with previous health or social care experience, to support our specialist in-patient therapy team, providing a service to neurosciences. The role is based at Southmead Hospital and will encompass work within both neurology and neurosurgery.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of an occupational therapist or physiotherapist, you will provide a range of interventions to support service delivery for patients who may be in pain, have reduced mobility, function, muscle strength, range of movement or cognitive issues, working within an agreed framework.

This will be delivered either on the wards or in therapy areas and will include supporting individuals to use the toilet, wash & dress or carry out other domestic tasks.

The role forms part of the wider multidisciplinary team and will also include administrative and housekeeping duties to support the overall management of the service.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • Provide identified therapeutic interventions or programmes within the framework devised by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
  • Monitor individual progress within delegated Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy programmes, adhering to specified protocols, evaluating outcomes, and adapting input as appropriate.
  • Assist Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists with service delivery, contributing to the overall management of delegated caseload.
  • Carry out administrative and housekeeping duties, taking responsibility for designated tasks.

Education/Training/Qual
Essential criteria
  • Health & Social Care NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds qualification, Therapy Assistant Practitioner qualification or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Literacy & Numeracy Skills level 2 or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development within therapy field including relevant competencies
Desirable criteria
  • Additional rehabilitation or therapy-related qualifications
Work Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience working as a therapy support worker or equivalent healthcare role
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience delivering rehabilitation or therapeutic interventions
  • Experience of maintaining clinical records and documentation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with patients who have complex physical or cognitive needs
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
