Job description
Role Overview

A band 3 role for a Therapy Assistant in Neuro Rehabilitation has become available in the Community Based Neuro Rehab Team based in the Reading area. The role is for 37.5 hours per week. The team sees patients for Community Neuro rehabilitation and on the Earlier Supported Discharge for Stroke service. We are a well-respected team consisting of Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Stroke Rehab Nurses, Administrators and Therapy Assistants. The role is community based and you will need to drive to patients' houses and other community sites to deliver rehabilitation on an individual basis following relevant induction. Rehabilitation is delivered to patients with both improving and deteriorating Neurological conditions. Working with our patients can be extremely rewarding but does require sensitivity at times and can occasionally feel challenging, for which there is support from the team and a robust supervision structure.

Responsibilities

The Therapy assistant role is pivotal to the team and will include:

  • Providing independent and joint face‑to‑face therapy sessions together with completing administrative tasks to support the team.
  • Delivering patient‑facing rehabilitation programmes as guided by therapists. Examples include:
    • Exercise programmes
    • Cognitive and visual rehabilitation
    • Speech and language exercises
    • Taking blood pressure readings
    • Mindfulness
    • Community access visits
    • Equipment reviews
  • Other non‑patient‑facing tasks include:
    • Preparation of paperwork for patients referred to the team
    • Co-ordinating the team to include meeting‑related admin and overview of patient flow
    • Ordering equipment / collecting from equipment stores
    • Calling patients to book / change appointments
    • Supporting with audits
    • Liaison and referrals to other services
