Job summary

The Portland Hospital in London, part of HCA UK, seeks a Scrub Theatre Practitioner to join our busy theatre team. You'll deliver scrub support across paediatric, maternity and adult services, preparing instruments and maintaining sterile fields.

In a role with early and late shifts, you will participate in the on-call rota and collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe perioperative care for a variety of procedures.

Qualifications

  • Current HCPC or NMC registration.
  • Postgraduate experience working within operating theatres.
  • Scrub theatre experience across paediatric, maternity and adult services.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality scrub support across a wide range of surgical specialties, including paediatric, adult and maternity services.
  • Prepare and maintain theatre equipment, instrumentation and sterile fields in line with best practice and safety standards.
  • Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure efficient and safe patient care throughout the perioperative pathway.
  • Participate in the on call and standby rota, providing support for emergency procedures and out of hours services.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety and clinical excellence within the Theatre team.

**Role: Scrub Theatre Practitioner** **Location: London, The Portland Hospital** **Hours: Permanent, Full time, 37.5 hours per week** **Shifts: Monday to Sunday, early and late shifts. Participation in the on call and standby rota, including overnight stay requirements. Typically one in four Saturdays, with occasional Sunday overtime available.** **Salary: Competitive + Shift Allowances** We’re looking for a Scrub Theatre Practitioner to join our Theatre team at The Portland Hospital. As the UK's only private hospital dedicated to women and children, and the largest private children's hospital in the country, you'll be part of a highly specialised environment where every day brings variety and opportunity. From routine ENT procedures through to complex cardiac and spinal surgery, colleagues deliver care across a broad spectrum of surgical specialties. The hospital is also home to the UK's only fully private maternity service, supporting more than 1,600 births each year. As a Scrub Theatre Practitioner in Theatres, you'll join a collaborative and highly skilled team delivering care across paediatric, maternity and adult services. Working within state of the art Elective Theatres and a Hybrid Theatre, you'll support a wide range of acute and complex procedures alongside leading consultants and multidisciplinary colleagues. This is a role that offers genuine clinical breadth, exposure to advanced surgical technologies and the opportunity to develop expertise across multiple specialties. The role operates across a varied shift pattern, including early shifts from 7:30am to 4:00pm and late shifts from 11:30am to 9:00pm, 12:30pm to 9:00pm or 7:30am to 9:00pm. You'll also participate in the on call and standby rota, helping to provide emergency and out of hours support when patients need it most.
