Job summary

Bishops Wood Hospital in Middlesex, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join its Theatres team. This full-time role (37.5 hours) requires covering a flexible shift pattern.

You will work within a multidisciplinary theatre team to prepare instruments, assist with anaesthesia, and ensure patient safety and comfort. Applicants should be registered with the NMC or HCPC and have theatre experience in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or HCPC registered theatre practitioner.
• Experience in theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
• Understanding of infection prevention and control, manual handling, and patient safety.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safe surgical practice.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments, maintain sterility and support the surgical team.
• Assist anaesthetist with equipment, monitoring, airway management and patient readiness for discharge.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
• Check surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support a positive, respectful and efficient theatre environment.

Job description

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatres department.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attenti to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
