Job summary

Three Shires Hospital in Northampton is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatres team. This full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week role offers a salary up to £38,000 per year, depending on experience, training and qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) registration.
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment (scrub, anaesthetics or recovery).

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safe surgical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and supporting the anaesthetist; provide post‑operative care.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment and report faults immediately.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe, efficient surgical lists.
  • Support a positive, respectful and efficient theatre environment.

Overview

Theatre Practitioner Three Shires Hospital 37.5 Hours & Permanent Salary: Up to £38,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Three Shires Hospital in Northampton is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatres department.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties Of This Role Include
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem‑solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
