Job summary

Goldman Sachs in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced software engineer to build and own systems for regulatory submissions. You will take features end-to-end in an Agile team, turning complex regulatory requirements into robust data workflows and scalable architectures.

The role emphasizes Java development, strong data modelling, and collaboration with Finance stakeholders. Cloud and microservices experience are highly valued; excellent communications across technical and business audiences

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a numerate/technical discipline.
  • 4+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong analysis and design skills, including data structures, algorithms and performance-oriented design.
  • Hands-on programming experience in Java.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and business audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own the systems that produce the firm's regulatory submissions to global regulators.
  • Take features end to end in an Agile team - requirements, design, code, test, UAT, release and run.
  • Produce technical designs, testing strategies and implementation plans.
  • Work directly with Finance stakeholders to turn regulatory requirements into workflows, data requirements and specifications.
  • Build reusable solutions other teams can adopt, and spot opportunities to collaborate across divisions.
  • Contribute to data modelling and curation for large-scale financial datasets.

Job description

The Core Engineering builds and operates the platforms, applications, data solutions, models, and analytics that power critical processes for The Core divisions of the firm (e.g., Risk, responsible for the risk profile of firm activities; Controllers, responsible for the financial control and reporting obligations; Compliance, responsible for the firm’s compliance, regulatory, and reputational risks; Corporate Treasury, responsible for the firm’s liquidity, funding, balance sheet, etc.; and Human Capital Management, responsible for attracting, developing, and managing a global workforce). A centralized engineering structure in support of The Core enables a common platform model and operating framework that promotes consistent governance and scalable solutions, leveraging cloud, AI, and machine learning for innovation and efficiency.

  • Metrics & Analytics Platforms: responsible for the measurement and management of the firm’s risk, capital, and liquidity for The Core functions
  • The Core Strats: responsible for the development and implementation of models and other quantitative methodologies, including the accuracy and attribution of modeled metrics
  • Financials & Reporting: responsible for facilitating the production of the firm’s financials and a wide range of reporting functions
  • Non-Financial Risk & Controls: responsible for non-financial risk and control processes
  • Enterprise Platforms: responsible for platforms and applications that support critical operational processes across The Core such as payments, people processes, and procurement
  • Shared Services: responsible for driving the adoption of consistent engineering strategy, including data platforms, cloud, and AI enablement, as well as the management of technology risk
What you'll do

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a numerate/technical discipline
  • 4+ years of software development experience

  • Hands-on programming experience in Java
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and business audiences
We'd also love to see (you don't need all of these)
  • Working knowledge of cloud, ideally AWS (S3, SQS, Lambda, Fargate) or equivalents
  • Experience with distributed, microservices-based applications
  • Solutions architecture and system design experience
  • Strong database and data modelling skills
  • Experience with agentic AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot Agent Mode, Devin) and spec-driven development
  • Big data / Lakehouse (Snowflake), ETL pipelines (Spark, Glue), or event streaming (Kafka)
  • Interest in investment banking or financial instruments
