Job description
The Iconic Thames Barrier & Associated Gates (TBAG) play a pivotal role in protecting over £321 billion worth of property and 1.42M people from tidal flooding in London.
We are seeking a new Manager to head up our operations ahead of the retirement of the current Manager. This will allow for a transition period where you will be given all the training and guidance needed to be successful.
This role focuses on ensuring TBAG is fully reliable and resilient at all times, maintaining 24/7 operations with the support of your 80+ on-site team. You will be a key player and pivotal to the success of the adaptive Thames Estuary 2100 strategy and associated Asset Management Strategy. You will lead a high-profile function requiring extensive experience of managing major infrastructure with a strong focus on lifecycle asset management, reliability and maintenance excellence. A professional qualification in engineering and/or asset management is desirable.
Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. You will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract additional payment and full training; alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
You will be the Asset Owner for the Thames Tidal Defences. Along with your teams and the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for strategic planning, asset information management, reliability and safety assurance, maintenance and operation of these assets.
As part of the Area Leadership Team, you will provide forward thinking and strategic direction and work with others across the wider business to influence and shape wider organisation design, systems and ways of working.
