The successful candidate will lead end-to-end test planning, execution, and quality governance across Core Banking and Retail Banking change (accounts, payments, lending, cards, channels). Drive test strategy, risk management, automation enablement, and stakeholder alignment. Maintain oversight of legacy (mainframe) components without deep hands‑on focus.

In this role you will:
    \
  • Define and own test strategyfunctional, integration, regression, data, performance, resilience, security, accessibility).
  • Translate business & regulatory requirements (e.g. payment flows, settlement, PSD2, AML, data privacy) into structured test coverage.
  • Establish quality gates, entry/exit criteria, and release readiness dashboards for SIT, UAT, Pre‑Prod.
  • Manage multi‑POD / squad test delivery: planning, estimation, capacity, prioritization, risk escalation.
  • Oversee defect lifecycle: triage, root cause trends, leakage reduction, KPI reporting (coverage %, pass rate, MTTR, automation %).
  • Drive API & microservices test approach (contract, schema, negative, performance) using Postman / similar; guide automation roadmap (e.g. REST, UI, data virtualization).
  • Coordinate cross‑system integration (core ledger, payments hub, channels, fraud, reporting).
  • Ensure robust test data strategy (synthetic generation, masking, refresh cycles, reference data alignment).
  • Champion shift left practices (early requirement reviews, static analysis / service contract validation).
  • Mentor and uplift team members into lead roles; provide structured 1:1 feedback and growth plans.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Proven experience in testing with at least 3–5 in lead capacity (multi‑team coordination).
  • Experience defining and owning a test strategy (functional, integration, regression, data, performance, resilience, security, accessibility).
  • Proven experience managing multi‑POD / squad test delivery: planning, estimation, capacity, prioritization, risk escalation.
  • Strong understanding overseeing defect lifecycle: triage, root cause trends, leakage reduction, KPI reporting (coverage %, pass rate, MTTR, automation %.).
  • Working knowledge of systems used by M&S Bank, such as OHC and Co-stars is beneficial
  • Exposure to automation tools (Tosca / pytest / REST libraries).

This role is based in Chester and offer hybrid working.
