Job summary

Cummins is seeking a enthusiastic Test Technology Engineer Placement Student to join our Test Technology team in Darlington. This placement offers hands-on exposure to test facility development and cross-functional collaboration within a global engineering organization.

As a placement student, you will work on infrastructure and technology projects, learn how we resolve equipment issues, and contribute to emissions and mechanical performance testing.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field.
• Willing to relocate or commute to Darlington on-site 5 days a week.
• Ability to quickly absorb and learn new technologies.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate projects centered on infrastructure and technology used in testing and development.
• Resolve equipment or facility issues through practical troubleshooting.
• Communicate with engineering teams on ongoing test and development projects.
• Collaborate with global teams on Cummins technology.
• Develop capabilities and use cases for measurement equipment and transducers used in emissions or mechanical testing.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Test Technology Engineer Placement Student to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Test Technology Business Segment in Darlington. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer 2027. The requirements are for the successful candidate to be on-site 5 days per week, so it is important that you can relocate, or be within a commutable distance to site

External Qualifications and Competencies

You will work within a team focused on test facility development and technical improvement projects, while maintaining existing capabilities:

• Co-ordinating projects based around infrastructure and technology used in testing and development activity.
• Developing and applying practical skillset through resolution of equipment or facility troubleshooting.
• Communicating with engineering teams around ongoing test and development projects.
• Working with global teams on upcoming Cummins technology.
• Developing capabilities and use cases of measurement equipment and transducers, used for emissions or mechanical characteristics of system performance

Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

• Studying for a degree in mechanical / electrical or a related discipline or studying for a degree with a keen interest in using technology to solve business problems.
• Ability to quickly absorb and learn new technologies as the rate of advancement in technology continues to push boundaries.
• Must be a team player, with the ability to manage their own workload and balance multiple tasks / projects at one time.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to express complex concepts in simple terms.
