Job description
Test Technician

As a Test Technician you will be responsible for provision of support to engineering development test activity and operational product testing. The role requires an adaptable individual who is also willing to learn new disciplines. The role is primarily Wimborne based, however, the business may require occasional off site support or support to test in the AAR Rig. The Test Technician will report to the Test Engineering Manager or supervisor. This job description applies to more than one technician level and as such responsibilities will be assessed based on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Role-dependent responsibilities based on deployment in the Range or AAR rig.
  • Primary responsibilities:
    • Area asset control: monitoring test equipment calibration, organising equipment returns and collections.
    • Area control and asset control: monitoring access, asset allocations and area maintenance.
  • Secondary responsibilities:
    • Provide technical test advice and support to engineering.
    • Set up and perform pyro‑mechanical testing of weapons release systems.
    • Set‑up and perform AAR test activity in the AAR rig.
    • Compilation and recording of engineering test data.
    • Implementation of process controls associated with manufacturing and self‑inspection stamps.
    • Co‑operate with management to meet the employer’s legal duties and take reasonable care of personal health and safety and that of others.
    • Perform initial test data analysis.
    • Understanding of DATA Acquisition systems to allow initial fault finding of Range DAQ.
    • Proactive approach to own development, supported by team leadership.
    • Completion and review of departmental risk assessments.
    • Provide high‑speed camera support as and when required by all CMS departments.
    • Carry out preventative maintenance activity.
    • Uphold 5s principles & keep test areas clean and tidy at all times.
Minimum Experience & Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years in an aerospace business. Minimum qualification: ONC/HNC preferred; entry level would be dependent on experience.

Skills & Competencies
  • Completed a recognised aerospace apprenticeship or served with HM forces in an engineering discipline (mechanical and/or electrical).

  • Knowledge of production processes, progress trackers and business KPIs.

  • Competencies initially baselined against 009 MCW Operations and Procurement 640 Test Operator; review as part of continuous improvement.
  • Experience in the manufacture, handling and storage of explosives (advantageary).
  • Working knowledge of Pyro‑mechanical Ejector Release Systems (desirable).
  • Working knowledge and experience of high‑speed data acquisition methods and associated devices (desirable).
  • Proven fault finding skills.
  • Previous assembler approvals (e.g., approval stamp holder).
  • Technical understanding of electrical, electro‑mechanical and mechanical/fluid mechanical equipment.
