Job Title: Test Engineer – Production Support & Test

Location: Chippenham

Contract Type: Long-Term Ongoing Contract

Pay Rate: Negotiable – Dependent on Experience

Pertemps is recruiting on behalf of an internationally renowned engineering organisation for a Test Engineer – Production Support & In-Circuit Test to join their Test Engineering team in Chippenham.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Test Engineering Team Lead, the Test Engineer will provide technical support for electronic production testing, including ICT and Flying Probe platforms. The role involves developing and maintaining test methods, writing and interpreting test documentation, supporting legacy test equipment, and implementing updates to test processes in line with product changes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for electronic production testing activities
  • Support In-Circuit Test (ICT) platforms, including Teradyne and Takaya Flying Probe systems
  • Operate, commission, and maintain production test equipment
  • Introduce new tests into the production environment
  • Develop test methods, procedures, and documentation
  • Train production technicians in test equipment operation and best practice
  • Liaise with internal departments, customers, and external test facilities
  • Investigate failed or fatigued components, carrying out root cause analysis
  • Produce detailed test reports and present findings to project teams
  • Provide regular progress updates to project teams and the Engineering Manager
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Engineering Manager
About You
  • Degree-level qualification in an engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in test or development (5+ years preferred)
  • Strong ability to interpret test standards, customer requirements, and internal specifications
  • Practical knowledge of test, measurement, and data acquisition equipment, including:
    • DMMs
    • Oscilloscopes
    • NI analysers
  • Hands‑on experience with electrical and electronic systems, including component‑level work and soldering
  • Strong problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Desirable
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. C++ for ICT)
  • Experience using LabVIEW
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Knowledge of automotive, railway, IEC, and BS standards
  • Understanding of IPC manufacturing standards
