Job summary

Electus Recruitment Solutions in Bolton is seeking a test capability engineer to shape test equipment for complex defence production, blending hands-on engineering with career development.

You will design test equipment, work across design and manufacturing teams, investigate issues and mentor engineers, with a focus on RF, antenna design, electrical architecture and test and measurement. This is a permanent role open to British citizens.

Qualifications

• Degree-level engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience designing test equipment, products or engineering systems.
• Technical capability in RF/antenna design or RF test and measurement.
• Experience managing technical work packages across teams.
• Ability to investigate design issues and establish root causes.
• Strong documentation and communication of technical information.

Responsibilities

• Provide test equipment design support to manufacturing engineering activities.
• Interface between design and manufacturing, resolving technical challenges.
• Investigate design issues, identify root causes and develop corrective solutions.
• Develop and refine products and test equipment through the manufacturing lifecycle.
• Manage engineering work packages, coordinate stakeholders and support delivery.
• Share knowledge and mentor engineers and engineering technicians.

What you will need

• British citizenship is essential.
• Experience designing test equipment, products or engineering systems, or supporting designs through manufacturing.
• Proven technical capability in at least one area such as RF and antenna design, electrical architecture, design safety or RF test and measurement.
• Understanding of the full product lifecycle and the ability to investigate design issues and establish root causes.
• Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing technical work packages.

Salary and rewards

Salary up to £52,500 depending on experience, with opportunities for continued technical development and career progression.

Your role

• Provide test equipment design support to manufacturing engineering activities.
• Act as an interface between design and manufacturing teams, helping resolve technical challenges.
• Investigate design-related issues, identify root causes and develop robust corrective solutions.
• Support the development and refinement of products and test equipment through the manufacturing lifecycle.
• Manage engineering work packages, coordinate stakeholders and support successful delivery.
• Share technical knowledge and mentor engineers and engineering technicians.

Your experience

• Technical capability in RF and antenna design, electrical architecture, design safety and integrity or RF test and measurement.
• Experience producing clear engineering documentation and communicating technical information effectively.
• Strong investigative and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to corrective actions.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and influence technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing work packages, preparing technical bids and controlling costs.
• Degree-level engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Location and setup

Bolton. Predominantly onsite, with an expectation of four to five days per week onsite due to the nature of the work.
