Job summary

Legrand is seeking a Test Engineer I in Reading, UK to support daily production testing of electromechanical assemblies. You will validate test programs, train operators, and provide technical support while maintaining test equipment and documentation.

The role requires a four-year technical degree in Electrical/Electronics and strong problem-solving skills. Collaboration with Production and Engineering teams will be essential to improve testing technologies and safety practices.

Qualifications

  • Four-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.
  • Relevant electronics design experience, either in a professional or academic setting.
  • Relevant internship/co-op experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verify the accuracy and proper performance of production test programs before use in production.
  • Assist in developing hardware/software technology that supports manufacturing quality and efficiency.
  • Provide on-demand technical support through the Production Technology Help Desk: Respond to and troubleshoot all issues; Elevate issues to senior-level engineers as necessary; Ensure all issues are addressed and closed.
  • Shared responsibility for test equipment maintenance, on and off-site.
  • Assist in creating technical documentation such as drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, installation instructions, and work instructions. Assembly of test stations, fixtures, probes, and other custom-built equipment.
  • Train supervisors and operators on the use of technologies.
  • Analyze and report key performance metrics related to test programs and equipment.
  • Communicate status changes to relevant personnel.
  • Identify opportunities for additions and improvements.
  • Perform upgrades, scheduled preventative maintenance, and repairs to system components.
  • Work closely with Production and Engineering to keep them well informed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Test Engineer I to join the Data Center Power & Control Division in Reading, UK. As a member of the Test Engineering team, this position will support daily production testing of electromechanical assemblies through test program validation, operator training, technical support, and equipment maintenance. Perform engineering services as required for the development of custom and standard test equipment. Assist in the design of equipment, electronic hardware, and software. This position is responsible for improving and sustaining production testing technologies and ensuring their proper usage.

  • Ability to interface with frontline production team members professionally in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of software development and architecture.
  • Understanding of networking / wireless networking.
  • Familiar with hand and power tools/soldering / electro-mechanical assembly.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • This position will regularly require exposure to manufacturing areas mandating the use of personal protective equipment such as (but not limited to): safety glasses, protective gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate with others.
  • Regularly required to assemble, interact with, and perform maintenance on complex electrical hardware and equipment.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10% of the time.
