Job description
About Us

Metricell is on a mission to revolutionise connectivity. We partner with telecommunications companies to design, deliver and manage wireless communication networks, all with a shared goal of achieving flawless network experiences.

For nearly twenty years, we have been at the forefront of network connectivity, providing innovative solutions that empower governments, network operators, and blue‑chip businesses worldwide to become ‘better connected’. More recently, we have pioneered the use of Artificial Intelligence to develop and enhance our tools.

About the role

Are you a hands‑on, practical problem solver with a passion for mobile technology? We’re looking for a Test and Measurement Engineer to join our team and help ensure mobile network connectivity wherever it is needed across the UK.

This is not your typical desk job! One day you could be testing mobile coverage in city centres, the next you might be travelling to a rural area for a festival or driving along pre‑planned routes with state‑of‑the‑art equipment. This work is highly customer‑driven so you’ll need to be flexible and open to change. Some unsociable hours may occasionally be necessary with night shifts and weekends depending on project requirements, and when not out in the field, you’ll be based at our Horsham Office to analyse results and plan test activities.

This is a mobile role requiring regular travel across the country, and you’ll be driving our shared company drive‑testing vehicle. Please note: for insurance purposes, applicants must be aged 21 years or over.

Core Responsibilities/Activities
  • Set up and operate mobile network test equipment to capture accurate measurements of mobile network performance.
  • Drive predetermined routes with the equipment installed in vehicles across the country.
  • Walk along predetermined routes with measurement equipment in a backpack, for example around buildings.
  • Conduct testing on Railway and Mass Transit Systems and undergo appropriate training for safe working in these environments.
  • Undertake testing at night when required.
  • Maintain test setups and configurations, including instrumentation, fixtures, and measurement systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to testing and measurement equipment.
  • Maintain and calibrate testing instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Involve in the evaluation of new testing technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency and capability.
Essential
  • Full and Clean UK Driving licence.
  • 21 years old + for car insurance purposes.
  • Reasonably physically fit, able to walk with a 10kg backpack for several hours at a time.
  • Willing to undergo a medical examination to obtain clearance to work in rail environments and undergo the appropriate health and safety training.
  • Willing to work irregular hours such as weekends and nights if required where testing (for example on the London Underground) has to be done when the system is not operating.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
  • Basic understanding of mobile communications technology and willingness to learn more.
  • Practical mindset with hands‑on experience working with technical equipment.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Computer literate; technical proficiency and an interest in mobile networks and telecoms.
Desirable
  • Residence in the UK for 3 years plus, so eligible to apply for SC clearance if required.
  • Experience with mobile networks, telecoms or Radio Frequency (RF) testing and operations.
Benefits
  • Additional day off for your Birthday.
  • 2 days volunteering leave.
  • 25 days annual leave (plus public holidays).
  • Full office closure between Christmas and New Year.
  • Refer a Friend Scheme.
Following your successful probationary period
  • Private Health Care (including hearing, sight and dental).
  • Bike2Work Salary Sacrifice Scheme.
  • Interest‑Free Season Ticket Loan.
We also have
  • Gym, showers and games room.
  • Prayer / Quiet room.
  • Regular social events.
  • Charity and fundraising events.
  • Free onsite parking at our Horsham office.

If you’re excited by the opportunity to join a collaborative, forward‑thinking team and play a key role in delivering impactful solutions to global clients, we’d love to hear from you!
