Job summary

A leading UK retailer is seeking a Shift Leader in Harlow to manage duty shifts and support in-store operations. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, able to lead a team, and foster a positive and safe working environment. A minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week is offered, with flexible working options available.

Job description
Availability Window

Availability windows for the role are daily from 06:00 to 22:00. The schedule will be within these times with 3 weeks notice of shifts.


Pay starts at £14.76 per hour, rising to £15.97 inside the M25. Additional payments may apply based on location.


We offer a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week, with options for fewer hours (minimum 12). We welcome flexi‑working.

Shift Leader responsibilities


  • Work in a fast‑paced retail environment.

  • Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well‑stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

  • Be there for customers, listening to them and ensuring they leave the store with what they came for.

  • Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback.

  • Guide and support in‑store colleagues, ensuring a safe place to work and shop.

  • Maintain a great understanding of store performance and support managers in improving store operations.

  • Lead by example and set a great example for colleagues.

  • Open and close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring decisions made are right for everyone's safety.

  • Act as the go‑to person for day‑to‑day queries in the absence of a manager.

  • Support managers with seasonal, community, and charity events.

  • Keep the store clean, tidy, and well‑presented.

  • Follow health and safety routines and procedures and ensure colleagues do the same.

  • Recognise and celebrate colleagues in the team who are providing great service.

  • Communicate clearly, using a variety of methods to keep the team well‑informed.

  • Motivate the team to deliver beyond expectations.

  • Be curious and look for ideas to serve customers, communities, and the planet better.
