Shift pay: The shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 an hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.

It is Tesco policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week. If you prefer fewer hours, a minimum of 12 hours is available and would still be considered.

The advertised availability windows show the periods during the week we would like you to be available to work. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times and give 3 weeks’ notice of exact shifts. We are happy to support flexibility if your availability matches closely but not exactly the advertised times.

It is not necessary to be available for every window; your application is welcome if your availability aligns with our needs.

Role summary

It takes great people to run a Tesco store, and a Shift Leader helps to support the team and keep operations running smoothly. You will oversee the store from the shop floor, assist customers and help ensure everything is running efficiently for customers, colleagues and communities each day.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a fast-paced retail environment with variety.
  • Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to maintain a clean, well-stocked store that meets customer expectations.
  • Assist customers and ensure they leave with what they came for.
  • Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback to the team.
  • Guide and support colleagues to keep the store safe for staff and customers.
  • Understand store performance and assist managers in actions to improve operations.
  • Lead from the front and set a strong example for the team.

You will be responsible for
  • Coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss-free shopping experience for customers
  • Supporting colleagues to meet daily priorities and take regular breaks
  • Opening and closing the store and completing duty cover, making safe decisions for everyone
  • Being the go-to person for day-to-day queries in the absence of a manager
  • Keeping the store clean, tidy, and well-presented
  • Supporting managers to coordinate seasonal, community and charity events
  • Contributing to a positive team atmosphere that is inclusive
  • Providing great customer service by listening to customers and putting them first
  • Keeping the team informed about communications and updates
  • Staying informed about store performance and seeking ways to improve operations
  • Coordinating store improvements and removing obstacles to great service
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Recognising and celebrating colleagues who provide great service
