Job summary

North Lakes Children's Services is seeking an experienced Cook to join our team at Haltwhistle. Hours are 8:30am to 4:00pm, term time plus one extra week in school holidays, with a full-time contract.

The role involves planning healthy menus, ordering and stock control, and ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene for pupils. You will prepare meals in line with school menus, cater for dietary needs, and may supervise kitchen staff while delivering a welcoming dining environment for

Qualifications

• Experience in a commercial or professional kitchen, preferably in a school environment.
• Ability to prepare high-quality, healthy meals in line with a school menu.
• Ability to work within a budget and manage orders.
• Ability to cater for a range of dietary requirements.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with kitchen hygiene rules and practices.
• Able to undertake physical tasks including lifting stock safely.

Responsibilities

• Prepare innovative, healthy menus meeting pupils' needs.
• Manage ordering, stock levels, stock rotation and cost control.
• Ensure all food safety standards are followed.
• Manage allergen and dietary requirements.
• Supervise kitchen staff and help with service to pupils.
