Job summary

Kier is seeking a Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our civil, structural and geotechnical team across multiple UK locations. You will contribute to complex temporary works design and checking, support preconstruction activities, and collaborate with construction teams to ensure safety and buildability.

Qualifications

• Pragmatic, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent experience.
• Strong organisational and communication skills and ability to work in collaborative teams.

Responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes.
• Acting as Project Lead for simpler projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery.
• Developing yourself, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.

Temporary Works Design Engineer

We're looking for civil, structural and/orgeotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours: 40 hours per week – flexibility on hours available if desired

Salary: Starting from £40k per annum

Sector: Working across all sectors of the built environment

• Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards?
• Working towards Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng) or of equivalent experience?

What will you be responsible for?

Contributing to the delivery of a broad range of complex construction engineering services, including some or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.
