Job summary

KierBAM, a Joint Venture between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland, is recruiting an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator for a major Plymouth naval dockyard project. You will coordinate all Temporary Works across site teams and designers, reporting to the Lead TWC, and ensuring designs are suitable for client approval.

The role requires a strong background in heavy civils/construction and nuclear sector experience, with a commitment to SHE and compliance with JV policies.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent (BSc/BA/BEng/MEng, Eng Tech, MICE, TIStructE).
  • Possibility of pursuing Chartership / Incorporation with IStructE, ICE or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Temporary Works across site teams and designers.
  • Report to the Lead TWC / Temporary Works Manager.
  • Review TW design briefs and manage submission to TW design teams.
  • Manage TW design submissions through life-cycle to client approval and dismantling.
  • Coordinate with in-house, supply chain and external design consultants.
  • Ensure TW works on site align with approved design details.
  • Conduct site inspections and issue TW Permits.
  • Promote SHE policies and manage associated risks.
  • Mentor less experienced members of the TW team.
  • Comply with commercial processes and JV policies.

KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland - BAM UK & Ireland's infrastructure segment is currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and we are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator. Joining the design / engineering team, you will be responsible for co-ordinating all aspects of Temporary Works on one of the major projects ongoing in the dockyard.

Due to the site being a high-security military naval base, additional security checks will be required – a BPSS level of security clearance is necessary. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been UK residents for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.

  • Contract: Permanent, 42.5 hours a week
Making Possible

As an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator, you will have significant experience as a TWC on heavy civils / construction projects, preferably with experience in the nuclear sector.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Reporting to the Lead TWC / Temporary Works Manager
  • Co-ordination of Temporary Works between our site teams and designers
  • Review of TW design briefs prepared by our site teams to ensure they are suitable for issue to the project’s Temporary Works Design teams and management of that submission process
  • Management of Temporary Works through the full design preparation and design checking processes in accordance with applicable procedures and client requirements
  • Manage Temporary Works design submissions through their full life-cycle to client approval, implementation, use and dismantling
  • Liaise with different in-house, supply chain and external design consultants simultaneously
  • Ensure the implementation of these Temporary Works on site is in accordance with the approved and checked design details
  • Site inspections and issuing of TW Permits
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to the project’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and management system requirements and expectations
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of SHE hazards and associated risks and demonstrate a commitment to eliminate or minimise those risks
  • Understand and effectively undertake SHE accountabilities
  • Manage and coordinate Temporary Works Supervisors
  • Comply with commercial processes
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and all relevant Joint Venture policies and processes
  • Provide practical support and mentoring to less experienced members of the temporary works team.

What do you bring to the role?
  • Degree qualification in civil engineering equivalent is desirable – one or more of: - BSc, BA, BEng, MEng, Eng Tech, MICE, TIStructE, Completion of Higher Apprenticeship
  • We will consider personnel working towards Chartership / Incorporation with IStructE, ICE or other appropriate professional body
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a TWC on heavy civils / construction projects, preferably with experience in the nuclear sector.
  • Experience of overseeing a broad range of reinforced concrete, formwork and falsework Temporary Works schemes as a TWC or in part as a TWS
  • Ideally experience in design and / or engineering management
  • Strong working knowledge of Temporary Works Management procedures
  • Experience in the delivery of major infrastructure projects
  • Awareness of commercial processes
  • A knowledge or experience of structural steel building buildings would be useful
