Temporary Production Operative

Location: Bridgwater
Hours: Full Time rotating shift work - 6am until 2pm, 2pm until 10pm. Starting on day shifts for 4 weeks whilst training
Contract: 6-month fixed term (potential to extend)

We are seeking a hands‑on Manufacturing Operative to join a busy department producing metal products

Key Responsibilities of a Production Operative
  • Manufacturing hand‑crafted components from raw steel tube and strip to precise specifications
  • Operating industrial machinery including induction welders, hydraulic presses and steel slitting machines
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety throughout all tasks
  • Performing quality control inspections using calibrated measuring equipment
  • Interpreting and following Manufacturing Works Orders (MWOs) and technical drawings
  • Conducting basic machine inspections and routine maintenance
  • Managing stock control and maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
  • Collaborating with other departments and communicating effectively across all levels
Key Skills of a Production Operative
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work effectively in a team
  • Strong attention to detail, good dexterity, and ability to work to tight tolerances
  • Able to multitask, prioritise tasks, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Effective problem‑solving, decision‑making, and communication skills
  • Experience in fast‑paced manufacturing or production environments
  • Vocational qualification in manufacturing, engineering, or production (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3)
  • Familiarity with operating machinery, hand tools, and basic quality control procedures
  • Understanding of Health & Safety practices, including Manual Handling and COSHH
  • Experience working to production targets, KPIs, and involvement in continuous improvement initiatives
