Job summary

A leading UK technology and infrastructure provider is looking for a Maintenance Communications Engineer. This role involves ensuring the reliability of communication systems, performing maintenance and repairs, and supporting internal teams. Candidates should have a general understanding of communication systems and a full UK driving license. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Croydon.

Responsibilities

Maintenance Communications Engineer

A leading UK technology and infrastructure provider is seeking a Maintenance Communications Engineer to support and maintain critical communication systems used across the rail network. The organisation delivers telecoms, network, energy, and on-train technology solutions and is committed to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

The Role

You will be responsible for ensuring communication systems operate reliably and efficiently. This includes performing maintenance, fault-finding, repairs, system updates, and documentation across a range of hardware and software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair communication systems including CCTV, PAVA, radio equipment, UPS units, network switches, and bespoke technologies.

  • Monitor system performance and resolve issues to reduce downtime.

  • Conduct routine inspections, tests, and preventative maintenance.

  • Configure and update hardware, software, and firmware where required.

  • Document all maintenance activities, configurations, and incidents.

  • Provide technical support to internal teams.

  • Manage hardware inventory and spare parts when needed.

What We're Looking For
  • Eligible for permanent, full-time employment

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Flexibility to work during scheduled periods (details discussed at interview)

  • General understanding of communication systems

  • Preferable experience with:

    • IP CCTV (e.g., Verint, Bosch)
    • PA Systems (amplifiers, PA routers)
    • Network switches (Cisco, HP)
    • Radio units (handheld and base stations)
